Tools used: Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, corporate cms
Company Background
Elsevier is a Dutch/British global scientific publisher. Its helps researchers advance science by facilitating research articles through online scientific journals and research platforms.
I was part of the E-marketing team, which was located on three continents, and supported 80+ marketing communications professionals around the globe in their campaigns in journal marketing. When I joined the team, a new corporate branding program was rolled out. Alongside my regular activities I took on several side projects to experiment with the style.
Conference logo design
The Smart Content Summit was a knowledge event organized by Elsevier to advance science.
I worked together with the event team to create a logo in the corporate branding style.
Internal event design
I created the visual language for an internal summit for Elsevier. The artwork is based on the company branding values, and inspired by commissioned illustrations according to the theme business chic. Next to the program booklet I designed the logo, email template, badges, the powerpoint presentations, and a poster template.

Design Materials
Email design user experience
Since I translated marketing campaigns to email design on a daily basis, I had a clear idea of the do’s and don’t s. Based on research on user experience and email design, with sources from the Nielsen Normann Group, I gave a presentation to the marketing team. Which included:
- Explanation of the F-method.
- How to keep readers visually engaged.
- Best practices based on internal examples.
Icon design
This icon set was created for Elsevier’s solution Research Data Management.
The icons symbolize the possibility to share research data with peers, link them in an easy way to article and publish them in an accessible way. In addition, I created various sets of static and dynamic banners for the use on external websites and social media.
Display materials
For multiple events, such as trade fairs, I created display banners, flyers and posters. Most of the print materials were relates to Elsevier journals.
Online ads
For Elsevier I’ve created 1,000+ banner ads for online journals.
To ensure that the social media images created by the marketing managers would be on-brand and following the design standards, I created a template library for them in Canva with a design guide that went along with it.
These designs illustrate the templates that I created for marketing professional across the globe.
